The Gran Teatre del Liceu is rightly one of Barcelona's landmarks. Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinsky, Hans Swarowsky and many other famous composers performed their works here. When the historic building on the Rambla burned down in 1994, one of the most beautiful opera houses in Europe was destroyed. Thanks to rapid reconstruction, the new opera house was inaugurated in 1999. While the auditorium has been restored to its former glory and splendor, the stage is now one of the most modern in the world.
