Erwin Schrott

Erwin Schrott

The Uruguayan bass-baritone made his debut at the age of 22 in the role of Roucher in Umberto Giordano's Andrea Chénier in his hometown of Montevideo. After numerous title roles at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile and an engagement at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Erwin Schrott became internationally known in 1998 when he won first prize at Plácido Domingo's Operalia singing competition. He subsequently made his international debut at all the major opera houses, including La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Vienna State Opera. Erwin Schrott's repertoire includes primarily major roles by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. But the bass-baritone is also highly successful as a concert singer, especially with the repertoire of his South American homeland.
