Rolando Villazón quickly made a name for himself on the international music scene after winning several prizes at Plácido Domingo's Operalia competition in 1999. This success led to his European debut as Des Grieux in Jules Massenet's Manon in Genoa in the same year. Rolando Villazón caused a sensation at the Salzburg Festival in 2005 with his role as Alfredo Germont in a new production of Giuseppe Verdi's La traviata alongside Anna Netrebko.
